Week Three

It has been easier than I thought to give up sugar. However I still feel very bloated and my rings are tight. I am feeling better since the epidural steroid shot but a side effect is that I am constipated. I drink at least 64 oz of water and eat ground flax seed, vegetables and apples. I'm hoping this will pass soon. My back does feel better but my foot still goes numb. But I played tennis went bowling and did an hour power pump class today.

January 9th

Two days after the Epidural my back is feeling much better but my foot still gets numb when I went for a walk. I am disappointed that my weigh in yesterday showed that I only lost 2 pounds. But then I thought if I loose 2 pounds every week for 6 weeks then I will be down 12 pounds. My fingers are still swollen and my abdomen is still bloated. I am surprised that I am not craving sugar. I do miss the glass of wine at night but I am glad that I will only have wine when we are at a social occasion.

January 4th

Today I took down the  Christmas decorations both inside and out. It was a little cold but by the afternoon it was in the mid 40's. I am surprised that I am not very hungry. Day 4 of diet. I am not going to weigh myself till next Wednesday. Clothes still feel very tight.

January 3rd

Yesterday Bob and Susan stopped by on the way to Venice. They hit a lot of traffic on I 95 but got here at 5:30pm. I joined them in a glass of wine before dinner. We had my fresh chicken rice soup and salad. I also served rosemary olive oil bread but I didn't have any. We played Phase 10 and I had another glass of wine.
This morning I served everyone scrambled eggs, bacon and sourdough toast. But I had my smoothie. Today was cold and windy so no tennis. Tomorrow I am running with Mary and playing tennis afterwards.

Happy New Year

I started the day by weighing and measuring myself. 133.2 is high but I feel confident that in 5 months I will be at least 10 -15 lbs lighter. I went to meet the running club for the annual New Years Day run. I ran with Mary and we did about 4 miles. I brought my last of the sweets to the sharing table then walked away. I brought water so I had something to drink.
I came home to my sweetheart who was waiting for me with open arms. I feel really good about this year. I am so lucky to be married to the best husband in the world.
Our friends Susan and Bob are stopping by tomorrow.

New Years Eve 2013

I hope that 2014 brings some changes to the Simprini family. Ron and I are ending the year watching a Twilight Zone Marathon. We plan to begin the year on a new eating plan and I am trying my best to give up sugar for 2014. Right now I am eating a slice of cheesecake. My last sweet for 365 days. I took pictures of my profile and front and rear views. Tomorrow I will weigh myself and take measurements. It is time for a change. I am getting an epidural next Tuesday. I really hope it will help my back pain and the way my foot goes numb. Then if I give up sugar and get relief from my back pain I think 2014 will bring better running and tennis and fun.

Getting Ready

All my life I have been a lover of sweet things. I even had an ice cream parlor called Sweet Things. But since hitting my 65th birthday 2 weeks ago, I have decided to really try to make some major nutritional changes in my life. So after I finish eating and or tossing all of the cookies, cheesecake, and candy I am going to start 2014 with a strong resolve to see what life without sugar holds in store for me. On January 1st I am going to chronicle this journey with photos, measurements, weight and exercise logs. In addition I will make note of physical and emotional changes that occur.

I am following The Virgin Diet because it makes the most sense. Giving up wine as well for at least a month and then limiting wine to social occasions not drinking it as an everyday pleasure.

I have always been a runner but recent medical issues related to sports overuse injuries have extremely curtailed my mileage. That has led to an unwelcomed weight gain and rolls of fat or a muffin top. So all will be revealed on Wednesday January 1st and when my birthday on December 15th 2014 comes around a newer stronger and healthier person will be posing for that photo.

I love this shot that Ron took in August 2013 in Spring Lake. It is how I feel when I am with him and enjoying summer my favorite season.  Next time I will be standing and smiling and feeling healthier.
